Corporate photography at the Chicago Board of Trade Building

The 1930 Art Deco tower at the foot of the LaSalle Street canyon. If your team is in this building, this is how a session here runs.

The Chicago Board of Trade Building is a forty five story Art Deco tower of 604 feet at 141 West Jackson Boulevard, closing the south end of the LaSalle Street canyon. Holabird & Root completed it in 1930 and it was the tallest building in Chicago until 1965, capped by John Storrs' faceless statue of Ceres. The Board of Trade itself was established in 1848 and is the world's oldest futures and options exchange. CME Group owns the building today and has had a trading floor here, about 300,000 square feet of it, since 2008. Cboe built trading floor and office space here as well, with pits for SPX and VIX options.

The building is owned by CME Group, whose trading floor has been here since 2008, and Cboe holds trading floor and office space in it. The surrounding block is the old financial spine of the city: the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago is opposite at 230 South LaSalle, and Northern Trust has been at 50 South LaSalle since 1905. The LaSalle Reimagined program is converting historic towers such as 135 South LaSalle and 111 West Monroe to apartments, with the first city backed units renting in September 2026.

A session here happens in your own suite, and access is what to plan first. This is a controlled access building with exchange operations inside, so visitor clearance, the dock or freight elevator window and any certificate of insurance have to be confirmed with building management well before the date. The trading floors are not part of a session and should not go into a brief. The session itself needs only a conference room of roughly eight by ten feet on your own floor. The Art Deco interiors and the LaSalle Street exterior are options, both subject to permission.

We photograph on site, in your own office. If your team is in this building, the notes below are what the day looks like. Nothing here is a claim to a past session in it, and no tenant named is a client unless it says so elsewhere on this site.

Sample work, photographed at other clients' offices rather than in this building. It is the standard a session here would be held to.

Johnson + Krol, a Chicago labor firm, and IWR North America, which lists a Chicago satellite office, are both clients.

Working in Chicago Board of Trade Building

The practical side of a shoot in this building, so the day runs on schedule.

Clearance comes first

Exchange operations mean building security is stricter than a standard office tower. Send our names, the equipment list and the arrival time to building management in advance, and expect visitor clearance to take longer than it would elsewhere.

The trading floors are off limits

Access to the trading floors is controlled and they are not something to plan a session around. Build the brief around your own suite, and treat any other interior as a request that has to be approved rather than a given.

Loading in a 1930 tower

Freight arrangements in a building of this age are particular. Confirm the dock location, elevator size and hours with building management, and we size the kit to what will actually fit.

The room

One conference room of about eight by ten feet with a power outlet. Older floor plates often have deeper interior space, so a room with a window is worth asking for even if it means a different floor.

Architecture as a background

Art Deco interiors and the LaSalle canyon exterior make strong environmental portraits when permission is granted. Ask building management early, because the answer decides whether the brief includes them at all.

Video on the same visit

Executive interviews and market commentary film can share the production day. Filming at 4K means the same visit returns stills alongside the finished film.

Chicago Board of Trade Building questions

What teams in this building usually ask first.

Can you photograph on the trading floor?
No. Access there is controlled and a session is planned around your own suite instead. If a brief needs an exchange environment, that is a conversation to have with building management and the exchange, not an assumption to build on.
How much lead time does the building need?
More than a standard office tower. Visitor clearance, the dock window and the certificate of insurance should be settled at least a week or two out, and we answer scheduling questions within one business day.
Can we use the historic interiors as a background?
Only with permission from building management. When it is granted, the Art Deco detail makes an unusually strong environmental portrait, and the LaSalle Street exterior is a good alternative from the public sidewalk.
How many people fit in a day?
Forty to sixty at fifteen minute slots, with the setup standing all day so traders and staff can come when the market allows rather than at a fixed hour.
Can you film as well as photograph here?
Yes. Executive interviews, recruiting film and brand pieces can share the visit, and filming at 4K means the same day also yields still frames.
