Fine art portrait photography in St. Louis
A fine art portrait session is the opposite of a quick headshot. It is a planned shoot with one subject, photographed on medium format in my St. Louis studio or on location: the concrete and steel of the Pulitzer Arts Foundation, the brick and iron of Laclede’s Landing, the light in Forest Park, or somewhere that means something to you.
Every session is directed. I decide the light, coach every expression and gesture, and work with a stylist and a hair and makeup team I trust so the day runs like an editorial shoot rather than a snapshot. The finished portraits are retouched to keep skin looking like skin, then made as archival prints and framed pieces, with the digital file included with every portrait you choose.

Consultation
A twenty-minute call about what you want the portraits to feel like, who they are for, and where they will hang. We set a date that leaves time to plan.
Look board and styling
A look board and a visual direction before anything is shot. I connect you with a stylist and a hair and makeup team I trust, and the looks are settled ahead of the day, so nothing is guessed at in front of the camera.
The session
The better part of a day. Hair and makeup first, then three to four looks with changes and touch-ups between them. You are directed through every frame.
Reveal and selection
You see the finished portraits at size, not on a phone. Choose the prints and pieces you want. Every one includes its file.
How pricing works
A booking fee reserves your date and the planning that goes into it.
Your portraits are chosen afterward, from the finished work. Digital files and prints are priced the same, because you are paying for the photograph, not the format it arrives in. Every portrait you choose includes its digital file.
Most clients choose a wall piece once they have seen the work at size.
