Orlando is two business markets stacked on the same interstate. One is the convention economy along International Drive, where the Orange County Convention Center holds 7,000,000 square feet of total space and 2,100,000 square feet of exhibit space, second in the country only to McCormick Place in Chicago. The other is a corporate office economy with nothing to do with tourism: defense and simulation contractors beside the University of Central Florida, hospital systems with tens of thousands of employees, and office towers spread across half a dozen separate municipalities. Most photographers who work this market only know the first one. We cover both, because a company that exhibits at a November show usually also has a Central Florida office that needs pictures.
Central Florida spreads along Interstate 4, and the address on a calendar invite is rarely the city people say out loud. Downtown Orlando holds the tallest towers, including the 441-foot SunTrust Center at 200 South Orange Avenue and the ten-spired Bank of America Center on North Orange Avenue. Lake Nona, southeast of downtown, is genuinely inside the City of Orlando. Much of the rest is not. Lake Mary and Heathrow sit in Seminole County. Maitland Center is the City of Maitland. Winter Park, Altamonte Springs and Celebration are their own municipalities, and Gaylord Palms is in Kissimmee, in Osceola County, no matter how many listings headline it as Orlando. A day here gets planned around those distances rather than around one downtown.
One photographer, one standard, across every office and event a company has. That matters more in Orlando than in a market with a single business district. A national company can have a trade show booth on International Drive, an engineering group beside the research park, a sales office in Lake Mary and a clinical campus in a different municipality again. When each of those is photographed by whoever was nearest and cheapest, the headshot wall stops matching and the brand photography reads as four brands. We fly in from St. Louis, cover the conference, then cover the offices on the same trip, with the same lighting and the same retouching. The set still holds together when it lands in a deck, on a careers page, or next to the St. Louis team.

International Drive convention corridor
Orange County
The Orange County Convention Center anchors this corridor, with the West Building at 9800 International Drive, the South Building at 9899 International Drive and the North Building at 9400 Universal Boulevard, all carrying Orlando 32819 mailing addresses. The facility is owned and operated by Orange County government. The big meeting hotels along the corridor function as extensions of the show floor, and the Hyatt Regency Orlando connects to the center by three bridges reaching all concourses.

The office core runs along Orange Avenue. SunTrust Center at 200 South Orange Avenue is the tallest multi-story building in Orlando at 441 feet and 35 stories, completed in 1988 with 30 floors of usable office space, while Bank of America Center at 390 North Orange Avenue rises 404 feet over 28 floors and 421,203 square feet, a postmodern Morris-Aubry design topped by a collection of 10 spires. CNL Center City Commons at 450 South Orange Avenue, whose main building is a 250-foot tower, plus Bank of America Plaza, Citrus Center and Premiere Trade Plaza Office Tower III fill out the Class A inventory.
Lake Nona and Medical City
Orlando
Medical City is a 650-acre health and life sciences park inside Lake Nona, in southeast Orlando. Its anchors include the UCF College of Medicine, opened in 2009, the 50-acre UCF Health Sciences Campus at Lake Nona about 25 miles south of UCF's main campus, Nemours Children's Hospital on a 60-acre pediatric health campus, HCA Florida UCF Lake Nona Hospital and the UCF Lake Nona Cancer Center. The Orlando VA Medical Center opened to patients here in 2015, the first brand-new VA medical center in Florida in nearly two decades.
Central Florida Research Park
Adjacent to the University of Central Florida
1,027 acres, more than 140 companies and more than 9,500 employees, the largest research park in Florida, fourth largest in the country by company count and seventh largest by employees. It holds the world's largest cluster for computer simulation and modeling, along with the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division and the US Army Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training, and Instrumentation. Locals place it by its relationship to UCF rather than by a city line, and we do the same: whether it falls inside city limits or in unincorporated Orange County is not something we assert.
Lake Mary and Heathrow
Lake Mary, Seminole County
Seminole County office country, north of Orlando along the International Parkway corridor, and not Orlando in any sense that a permit office would recognize. Seminole County's own top-employers document puts Deloitte Consulting in Lake Mary at 1,850 employees and Verizon Corporate Resources Group at 1,300. The drive from the convention corridor spans the length of the metro, which is why these offices get their own block of a schedule rather than a gap between other stops.
Maitland Center
Maitland
A suburban business park north of downtown, inside the City of Maitland rather than Orlando. Named buildings with addresses include Maitland Park Center at 2500 Maitland Center Parkway, 120,206 square feet on 6.5 acres, Maitland Office Center at 2400 Maitland Center Parkway, and 2605 Maitland Center Parkway. Low-rise floor plates and glass lobbies mean the usable light is usually found rather than built, and we scout before the first person sits down.

Modeling, simulation and training
This is the most distinctive thing about corporate Orlando and almost nobody writes about it. Central Florida Research Park, adjacent to UCF, holds the world's largest cluster for computer simulation and modeling and more than 370 companies that are members of the National Center for Simulation. Tenant commands at NSA Orlando include the Naval Air Warfare Center Training Systems Division, which employs over 1,200 government service civilians at its research park complex, and the US Army Program Executive Office for Simulation, Training, and Instrumentation. The ecosystem represents approximately $7 billion in procurement dollars for modeling, simulation and training companies, supported by the simulation and training commands of the Army, Navy, Air Force and Marine Corps, and prime contractors with a local presence include Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Boeing, General Dynamics and Rockwell Collins. Every December the industry fills the convention center for I/ITSEC.

Aerospace and defense
Lockheed Martin Missiles and Fire Control runs a 260-acre Orlando site at 5600 Sand Lake Road with over 4,000 employees, an Innovation Center and two research and development facilities focused on advanced combat, missile, rocket, and manned and unmanned systems, with customers including the US Army, Navy, Air Force, Marine Corps, NASA and dozens of foreign nations. The business overall is headquartered in Grand Prairie, Texas, with Orlando as one of its major facilities.

Healthcare and life sciences
Orlando Health is Central Florida's fourth-largest employer with nearly 29,000 employees. AdventHealth operates a multi-campus system across the metro with approximately 20,000 employees, including campuses in Winter Park, Altamonte Springs and Celebration, each a separate municipality from Orlando; that headcount comes from a Central Florida roundup rather than an Orlando MSA count, so treat it as approximate. From 2019 to 2024, Orlando Health, AdventHealth and Seminole County Public Schools added the most employees of any Central Florida employers, and the Lake Nona research campuses keep pulling the sector southeast.

Meetings, hospitality and attractions
Orlando has been named Cvent's No. 1 meeting destination in the United States and North America for 11 consecutive years as of the 2026 list. Twenty area convention hotels and resorts made Cvent's Top Meeting Hotels in North America list, with 16 ranked in the Top 100 and one placing in the Top 10, the JW Marriott Orlando, Grande Lakes. Walt Disney World is the single largest single-site employer in the United States at approximately 77,000 employees, and IAAPA Expo brings the attractions industry to the convention center each November.

Downtown Orlando's Class A towers along Orange Avenue hold the legal, financial and professional firms. A second cluster sits north in Seminole County, where Seminole County's top-employers document lists Deloitte Consulting in Lake Mary with 1,850 employees and Verizon Corporate Resources Group with 1,300. Maitland Center in the City of Maitland adds low-rise office space, and Ravaudage, a 90-acre mixed-use development in Winter Park, has planned components including a seven-story office building with retail at Lewis Drive and Monroe Avenue, a seven-story 250-unit apartment building, a boutique grocery, a three-story events center, townhomes and apartments.

Higher education and research
The University of Central Florida sits beside Central Florida Research Park, and its health sciences footprint runs about 25 miles south at Lake Nona, where the UCF College of Medicine opened in 2009 and the UCF Health Sciences Campus occupies a 50-acre complex for medical and health sciences education and biomedical research. Amazon is also named among Orlando's top employers, which gives the region a distribution and technology hiring base alongside the university pipeline.

Conference and trade show coverage in the Orlando convention district
The Orange County Convention Center is the second-largest convention center in the United States, after McCormick Place in Chicago. It opened in 1983 as the Orange County Convention and Civic Center and grew through multiple expansion phases into two buildings, the West Concourse and the North/South Concourse, with the West Concourse alone holding approximately 1.10 million square feet of exhibition hall space across halls WA, WB, WC, WD, WE and WF. From October 2024 to September 2025 the center hosted 173 events drawing 1.8 million attendees and generating $4.2 billion in economic impact. The Grand Concourse expansion, a $560 million project funded by Orange County commissioners' 2023 approval of Tourist Development Tax money, begins construction in 2026 and adds 650,000 square feet connected to the North/South Building, including a 100,000 square foot ballroom and improved walkways between the buildings. Around that campus sits the deepest set of convention resorts in the country, several of which are not in Orlando at all.
Orange County Convention Center
Two buildings on the International Drive corridor, with the West Building at 9800 International Drive, the South Building at 9899 International Drive and the North Building at 9400 Universal Boulevard. Owned and operated by Orange County government, roughly 11 to 12 miles from downtown Orlando by road.
Hyatt Regency Orlando
On International Drive with 315,000 square feet of meeting space, five pillar-free ballrooms on a single level, 105 breakout rooms, 52,000 square feet of outdoor space and a 20,000 square foot rotunda used for registration and networking. It connects directly to the convention center by three bridges reaching all concourses and sits about 15 minutes from Orlando International Airport.
Rosen Shingle Creek
Off Universal Boulevard in the convention district, described as Orlando's largest full-scale convention property: 524,000 square feet of flexible meeting and event space on 255 acres with 1,501 guest rooms. The Gatlin ballroom runs 95,000 square feet, the Sebastian 60,000 and the Panzacola 40,000, with 55,000 square feet of breakout rooms and more than 144,000 square feet of pre-function space, 410,000 indoors and 136,000 outdoors.
Gaylord Palms Resort & Convention Center
In Kissimmee, Osceola County, not Orlando, whatever the headlines say. More than 500,000 square feet of meeting space and 1,718 guest rooms. A $158 million expansion that began in 2019 and opened in summer 2021 added more than 100,000 square feet of meeting space and 306 rooms in the Gulf Coast Tower, including the Coastal Ballroom at more than 30,000 square feet, 30,000 square feet of breakout rooms, 30,000 square feet of pre-function space and the Mangrove Lawn with 10,000 square feet of artificial turf. A 2025 renovation of $134 million refreshed 77,000 square feet of meeting space.
Disney's Coronado Springs Resort
In Lake Buena Vista, on Walt Disney World property, and the largest convention center on that property at 220,000 square feet of meeting space with two ballrooms, an exhibit hall, 45 breakout rooms and capacity over 6,500. The Coronado Ballroom is 60,214 square feet with a theater capacity of 6,684 and is described as the largest ballroom in the southeastern United States; the Fiesta Ballroom is 21,160 square feet seating 2,650 theater style. Gran Destino Tower opened July 9, 2019, adding a 24-seat boardroom and 3,000 square feet of meeting and event space.
Signia by Hilton Orlando Bonnet Creek and Waldorf Astoria Orlando
Two properties on the same 482-acre Bonnet Creek site surrounded by Disney on all sides, at 14100 Bonnet Creek Resort Lane. Sources disagree on the municipality for this address, listing it variously as Lake Buena Vista and as an Orlando 32821 mailing address, so we call it the Bonnet Creek resort area near Walt Disney World. Signia holds 231,000 square feet of meeting space after a 2024 expansion added over 84,000 square feet adjacent to the existing space; the Waldorf Astoria holds 120,000 square feet including a 7,945 square foot Grand Ballroom, an 8,436 square foot Central Park Ballroom, 14 breakout rooms and two boardrooms. Together the two run to nearly 300,000 square feet.
Grande Lakes Orlando
The JW Marriott Orlando, Grande Lakes and The Ritz-Carlton Orlando, Grande Lakes share a campus at 4040 Central Florida Parkway in Orlando, at the intersection of John Young Parkway and Central Florida Parkway. More than 169,000 square feet of combined event space, with over 100,000 at the JW Marriott and over 47,000 at the Ritz-Carlton, plus 56 breakout rooms and six ballrooms. The JW Marriott placed in the Top 10 of Cvent's Top Meeting Hotels in North America list.

IAAPA Expo
The attractions industry's largest trade show, scheduled for November 16 to 20, 2026 at the Orange County Convention Center. It fills halls with operating rides, water features and live demos, which makes it a lighting problem as much as a coverage problem.
I/ITSEC
The Interservice/Industry Training, Simulation and Education Conference, held at the convention center near the beginning of December each year and organized by the National Training and Simulation Association. It is the world's largest modeling, simulation and training conference, typically drawing more than 18,000 attendees and exhibitors from more than 60 countries, with peak attendance around 20,000 in 2010 and 2011. It is the one week a year the entire Central Florida simulation cluster is under one roof.
PGA Show
A golf industry trade show that returns to the convention center in January. Published dates for the 2026 edition circulate but the source we found is not solid enough to repeat here, so confirm the exact week with the organizer before planning travel around it.
A show day on a floor this size is a walking job before it is a photography job. The West Concourse alone runs more than a million square feet of exhibition hall, the North/South Building is a separate structure, and a booth photo, a keynote and a press availability can sit a long way apart with fifteen minutes between them. We plan from a shot list built before the trip, walk the floor plan the night before or at move-in, and carry a second body so a dead battery never costs a session. Light is mixed by default, with LED wall spill, tungsten accents and daylight off the concourse glass in one frame, so exposure and white balance get set per stand rather than per hall. Badges, escorts and dock access are arranged with show management ahead of time. When headshots are part of the same day, we plan a quiet corner or a suite and run a short, fast queue between sessions so nobody misses a panel. Selects go out while the show is still open, because a recap post lands differently on day two than the following week.

Getting the place right
Central Florida is described by corridor, not by city. International Drive, which everyone shortens to I-Drive, is the convention corridor, running past the convention center buildings and the largest meeting hotels. Interstate 4, the I-4 corridor, is the spine the rest of the metro hangs from, reaching from the Seminole County offices around Lake Mary and Heathrow through downtown and out toward the resort area. Medical City is the local name for the health and life sciences park inside Lake Nona, southeast of downtown, and it is one of the few large pieces that really is the City of Orlando. The rest is a patchwork that catches out-of-towners. Kissimmee, Lake Mary, Maitland, Winter Park, Altamonte Springs, Celebration and Lake Buena Vista are separate municipalities with their own governments, and a vendor who books a Kissimmee resort believing it is an Orlando hotel will learn the difference in traffic.

The convention center sits roughly 11 to 12 miles from downtown Orlando by road, and travel appears as one agreed line on the estimate, settled before anything is booked.
